Everywhere I turn lately, I find myself struck (the energy literally does feel that way) by people feeling either hopeful or hopeless.
Be with me for a moment, they do count after all – moments, that is. Those words, “hopeful” and “hopeless” they get thrown around a lot. I do not want us to take them for granted when we spend these next few minutes here. So let’s look closer at them:
Hopeful… Full of hope
Hopeless….. With less hope
So, clap the clapperboard and reshoot the first scene on this page:
Everywhere I turn lately, I find myself struck (the energy literally does feel that way) by people feeling either “Full of hope” or “With less hope”.
People feel either they “can” or they “can’t”. For those who feel they can’t, the world feels as if it is turning in a way that makes it hard to stand, difficult to keep your balance.
When we feel we are falling we tend to reach for whatever is near us to hold onto. We may not even have time to look around; we just have to react when our world is shifting.
I live in earthquake country. I was born and raised in earthquake country. So, I get it. I understand. When the earth is shaking underneath you, your natural instinct is to grab something, anything. Grab it and hold on tight.
What is around you?
Who is around you?
Sometimes, that is the best thing to do.
But, other times the best way to keep your balance is to just let go of what you’ve grabbed. Find a different safe in riding it out. You see, when the earth is shifting beneath you, holding onto something just because it was within your reach doesn’t mean it was the best thing to reach for. It only means it was the easiest thing to reach for.
Yet, sometimes there is a specific something we want to grab for, something we feel we most need to reach for, the “true” that will feed the deepest part of our self and keep us standing, no matter what comes. But, sometimes that specific something is too scary to reach for, so we settle, whatever settling means to us.
And if, in the end, there is that solid rock of “true” and we don’t make that reach, we may find ourselves rethinking that decision over and over and over….. and over.
Then again, maybe you just need to hit the deck. Perhaps the best course of action is allowing yourself to dive under the nearest table before something knocks you on the head. Then, get up and move on when the shaking settles down.
Whatever you do, remember, the earth shakes. I know.
Life is gonna give you another chance to be happy. Take it!
Life is gonna give you another chance to be full of hope. Take it!
Henry Ford said something I remind myself of often. Today, I offer it to you:
“If you think you can do it, or you think you can’t do it, you are right.”
